I don't know why I even bother worrying about having fun on holiday weekends away from home (home in this instance equaling my parents' house), because they always turn out to be amazing and I've wasted all of this time worrying about nothing. I feel like there's a lesson hidden in there, not terribly far below the surface.
Friday, I had the bizarre experience of running into Colby on his lunch break when I went to lunch with a friend. We were making our way toward the counter to order our sandwiches when she said, incredulously, "Is that Colby over there?" I thought she was just joking and didn't even turn to look at first, but then when she said it again, I looked over, and there he sat, chowing down on a sub and looking at me suspiciously. I think he thinks I'm stalking him. Anyway, we laughed and sat next to each other, and I don't know, maybe you had to be there, but it was amusing to me.
Saturday, we went to the first Charleston farmers' market of the season, and met up with a few different groups of friends. The crowd of people there was a bit overwhelming, I think in part due to the fact that it was the first market of the year and also because people were taking advantage of the beautiful warm weather before it turns oppressively hot. After the market, we ate barbecue then went to Lowe's and bought everything in the entire store. Or so it seemed. Mostly we bought a bunch of herbs, and now I'm raring to go on our backyard garden. Colby is less so.
Easter was another gorgeous day, and we headed over to our friend's house for a delicious Greek Easter featuring lamb, Greek salad, cinnamon potatoes and green beans in crushed tomatoes. And cheesecake. Though I think that last part might be more American Easter. It was an amazing meal which led to an amazing nap on the couch for the rest of the afternoon. No holiday is complete without a nap on the couch.
So the weekend was the perfect combination of busy and relaxing, and I'm looking forward to a fun week with Colby still at home for the foreseeable future. Today I'm going downtown to wander through people's private homes for the afternoon, and then tomorrow I'm seriously starting to put the pressure on Colby to build my raised garden so I can get to planting. I hope you all had an amazing Easter weekend and enjoy your return to your pre-Lenten existence.
